White Fragility
Robin DiAngelo
About this book
Robin DiAngelo coined the term 'white fragility' to name the defensive reactions white people exhibit when their racial worldview is challenged — and shows how these reactions work to protect white racial comfort at the expense of racial justice.
Key themes
- White fragility as a defensive mechanism that shuts down racial conversations
- How the racial stress of cross-racial dialogue triggers white fragility
- Socialization into whiteness: what white people are taught not to see
- Moving from fragility to sustained engagement with discomfort
- The difference between being 'not racist' and being anti-racist
