The Places that Scare You
Pema Chödrön
About this book
Pema Chödrön guides the reader into the heart of Buddhist practice for difficult times — showing how the places we fear most are the exact places where genuine warmth, compassion, and awakening become available.
Key themes
- Bodhichitta: the tender, open heart as the basis of all practice
- Groundlessness and uncertainty as the ground of genuine courage
- Lovingkindness (metta) practice for difficult people and situations
- Working with groundlessness rather than running from it
- Compassion as the willingness to be with, not fix, suffering
